These straps are here to make it impossible to drop your weight until you're done with it. It has a simple but effective design that utilises your wrists to keep either a barbell or dumbbell in your palm when your grip fatigue fails. 

The reason so many bodybuilders and powerlifters use straps is because they know that more often than not their grip strength is the limiting factor in their growth and strength potential. By removing grip strength from the equation you can focus on growing the targeted muscle and you don't have to worry about sweaty palms.
